I love Inner City living, with its buzzing social life and the ability to zip from Beach to CBD…but these days it’s a lot less zipping and a lot more waiting to get around, and as a time-poor entrepreneur, this was really starting to stress me out.

With the hectic traffic jams, damaging pollution and insane parking prices, I was constantly finding myself freaking about my mounting To-Do list, whilst staring at the hundreds of cars plodding along in front of me and thinking there must be a better way, right!?

As a busy BossBabe I want things done fast – we all do?

But the perfectionist in me, often has other ideas.

Begging me to hold off on hitting the publish button until the content until is just right.  “What about that tone, maybe an extra paragraph is better, let’s rewrite the headline for the 400th time”  Ugh! On and on in and endless loop of inane (and super unhelpful) chatter!

What I know for sure is…

Speed to market is essential in business.

I am constantly expanding my business, and looking for new and creative ways to connect with my audience across social and the blog, and at times (actually, almost all the time) I doubt whether I should publish what I’ve done, because it’s not “perfect”.

I’m not quite happy with what I’ve done and I know I can do better, but we all have goals and deadlines!!  So which one wins?

We need to ask ourselves, is done better than perfect?

Sometimes, no, actually all the time, “done is better than perfect” because if you keep waiting until tomorrow, until you perfect every detail… then you’ll miss your opportunity and never get things done!

If you wait too long to publish an article, create a video, or  start your blog, you can lose momentum and the mean-girl in your head takes over.

Take the risk or lose the chance.

Perfectionism kills productivity! We’re all human and we make mistakes, not everything is meant to be perfect. We need to be more realistic.

So I’ve tracked down a few key strategies to help you overcome perfectionism:

    • > Recognize that for many activities, especially anything with an element of creativity, there is no one ‘right’ way, no one ‘right’ answer. It needs an element of you in there to>

    • > Switch off your negative self-talk! Think of at least three things you are doing right! If you look at what you’re doing in a positive light, then you’ll have a positive outcome

Know the difference between healthy and neurotic perfectionism– it’s good to want your work to be amazing and stand out, but you shouldn’t set yourself up with unrealistically high expectations.

No one is perfect, and you always learn in the process and can try to improve

    • > Take breaks! This gives you a chance to de-stress and re-evaluate your work!

    • > Focus on what you want rather than what you don’t want, and separate your results from your judgement- you’re always your own worst critic

    • > And most importantly, celebrate every progress, victory and failure! Reward yourself for meeting that deadline early

If you acknowledge and accept these traits, you’ll stop procrastinating and get a lot more work done.

Succeed more in your passions and in your career.

And always remember “done is better than perfect”.

As for my solution for pollution-and-time saving transport?

I’ve been testing out this zippy Vespa i-Get and I gotta say I LOVE it!   Buh-bye traffic jams, expensive parking stations and pollution-causing cars.

It makes perfect sense for inner-city travel, has massively reduced my travel time – which in turn reduces my stress levels, and the best part is, it’s only $7/month to run.  Say what?! Yep, $7.

So with one small lifestyle change, I’m saving time, money and doing my bit for the environment.

Now that kind of perfectionism, I’m totally down with!
